报告摘要:This talk consists of three closely related topics. First, the recent study on the effects of saturation, grain shape, grading and lateral confinement on the high strain rate compressive responses of partially saturated sand and glass beads using the modified split Hopkinson pressure bar will be reported. Second, the numerical simulations of the dynamic behaviour of sand under impact loading using combined discrete element method (DEM) and finite element method (FEM) in LS-DYNA will be presented. The simulation results suggest that it is feasible to model dynamic behaviour of dry and wet sand with low saturation (<20%) in LS-DYNA; however, a number of questions remain open about the effect of grain shape, grain crushing and viscosity. Finally, the recent development on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) framework for modelling multiphase interactions at meso-scale will be reported. In the proposed SPH framework, inter-particle forces are accounted to model both the liquid-liquid and liquid-solid interactions; particle penetration between liquid-solid phases is prevented using a boundary force formulation. The deformation of the solid induced by the liquid-solid interaction has also been simultaneously modelled, demonstrating the potential of the proposed framework to genuinely study complex multiphase interactions in wet porous media

报告人简介:Dr. Luming Shen is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at The University of Sydney, Australia. He received his Bachelor's degree in Building Engineering and Master's degree in Structural Engineering from Tongji University, China. He then worked as Structural Engineer in Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences, China, specializing in building structures design, from April 1997 to August 1999. After he received his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA in July 2004, he worked as Post-Doctoral Fellow at the same university until January 2006. He was then a Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at Monash University, Australia, before joining The University of Sydney as Senior Lecturer in July 2008. His research interests are mainly focused on solid mechanics, impact engineering, multiscale modelling, multiphase interaction, porous media, etc. His research has been funded by Australian Research Council, National Natural Science Foundation of China and U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers in leading international journals, including Nature Nanotechnology, IJNME, IJSS, Composite Science and Technology, etc.
